Daniel will be talking about his approach to the Cajon and how he integrates and applies the concept of the drum kit to this instrument. He will also be demonstrating how he transfers Contemporary and Latin rhythms including Rock, Samba, Songo and Guaguanco from the drum kit to the Cajon. The Masterclass will illustrate how to apply transferable skills to the Cajon and how to get different sounds from the instrument. Born in Sinaloa (México) 1980, Daniel was initiated to the world of music at the age of 15. A proficient all-round percussionist, he has a passion for the Cajon and is currently endorsed by PRK Percussion (Barcelona). He studied music at the National Center for Art Schools (Havana), one of Cuba’s leading cultural academies, where he had the privilege to develop his ability alongside renowned teachers and international percussionists such as Changuito and Roberto Vizcaino. Back in Mexico City, he also studied the Cajon under the guidance of Flamenco percussionist Hector Aguilar (The Carmen Amaya Flamenco Company). In 2002 he founded the Latin American group "SON MONTUNO" and started touring around Europe thereafter. As a solo artist he has also performed at countless Flamenco and Cajon festivals in and around Spain. |
